Leggings as pants as we’ve known it are changing. They have been the Little Black Dress of casual wear since forever. And we have seen them in every color, print and style since around 2009. So are leggings still relevant? The short of the answer is: Yes. But you gotta keep it simple.
They are still the most easy to wear and comfortable pants in our closet. They pair well with our favorite sneakers, boots and slouchy sweater. They are super comfy for traveling and they pack well for those of us who like to pack light.
I’m going to break it to you softly: The days of crazy printed leggings for women are over.
I know they were fun while they lasted but we are trading in the crazy prints for more versatile and sophisticated looks. The main color of choice? BLACK.
The key word with all casual wear these days: Basic. When it comes to leggings, I am seeing a lot of ladies trade in their Lulu black leggings for black skinny jeans and pants in heavier ponte fabrics.
Essentially, we want the basic black pant. Leggings give us that, but we are wanting more substantial fabric choices.
Leggings are still very much a wardrobe staple, but they are now in our wardrobe basics category and they have taken on a more classic look. They have become a comfy pant we can wear easily with sneakers.
Celebs wear their favorite black leggings with everything from crop tops to classic Adidas shoes and even Chanel jackets. With the basic black legging, we are pairing them with fresh styles such as button down denim and plaid shirts, blazers and cropped moto jackets.
