Brand of The Week: Little Marc Jacobs S/S ’18
Marc Jacobs launched his childrenswear line, Little Marc Jacobs, in 2007. Since then, he has been creating the same playful and free-spirited collections in mini-me sizes. This Spring and Summer ’18 kids collection by Marc Jacobs transports us somewhere back in time where The Electric Company was our TV jam, bicycles were our freedom and we lived for Saturday mornings and Fruity Pebbles cereal.
The S/S ’18 collection is highlighted by the Miss Marc character and features playful, frothy tulle skirts, late-70’s to early 80s inspired graphics, sequined ringer tees, whimsical characters, embellished denim and metallic trimmed details.
The collection pretty much sums up everything I would have wanted to wear as a tween. It’s definitely eclectic and playful with a color palette that needs no explanation for its inspiration. The mix of glittering sequins, soft pastels, ombre dyes, and bold, complimentary and secondary colors are what every girl wants.
The playfulness found in many of Marc Jacob’s pieces can be attributed to his own childhood, growing up in New York City. In fact, Jacobs has been designing nearly all his life. His first collection of handknit sweaters was launched when he was still in college. In 1986, Jacobs designed his first collection bearing the Marc Jacobs label. In 1987, Jacobs was only 23 and the youngest designer to have ever been awarded the fashion industry’s highest tribute, the Council of Fashion Designers of America’s Perry Ellis Award for “New Fashion Talent”.
Today, Marc Jacobs is one of the most respected, trend-setting designers in the world and this has trickled down to his fabulous Little Marc Jacobs children’s line. Little Marc Jacobs is a symbol of style and luxury. Offering a versatile collection of children’s shoes, clothing, and accessories, Little Marc Jacobs continues to push fashion to its upper limits season after season.
