I love to follow trends as much as any fashionista. But I gotta tell you, there isn’t anything better than shopping for the perfect party dress, and also nothing worse than shopping at the same prom dress stores and websites for the same boring prom dresses that other girls are going to be wearing. Some girls won’t go to a prom or bridal chain store simply to avoid an embarrassing night of wearing the exact same dress as someone else. I have seen this happen with many teens in smaller towns who have limited options. I designed a prom dress for a girl 10 years ago and she told me all of the girls at her school swooned. I’m not gonna lie, she was stunning. Here’s the dress:
Many teens choose to sew their own dress, or have their dress custom made. I think this is a great idea if you want something totally unique and all your own. Picking out the fabric is probably my favorite part!
Celeste ‘s amazing pale pink prom gown was made by her mom. Her evening was as unforgettable as her dress, though, when she and her best friend/prom date were crowned homecoming queen and king, and to top it off, Justin Bieber showed up!

I have seen some fabulous custom made dresses, as well as a few re-made prom dresses (No, I’m not talking Pretty in Pink style) I honestly love you, Molly, but that dress. SRSLY?

If you are crunched for time, and you definitely want something different, special and unique, try some stores unlike the typical David’s Bridal or Prom stores. You never know what you’ll discover. And the whole idea is to look your best. If it’s a simple gown, it can be easily dressed up with the right jewelry.
Honestly, if I were going to do it all over again, my pick would be something elegant and memorable. I’d have to go Hollywood and do it red-carpet style. I mean, prom only happens once in your life. Make sure the dress is on point 😉

Faith Thigpen wanted something so unique, she opted out of the classic prom dress and went for a jaw-dropping $1,995 Angel Brinks jumpsuit that went viral and shut it down. I have a feeling she totally raised the bar for young ladies everywhere. I can’t wait to see who wears what next.

Shops that sell prom dresses keep a computer file registry of schools and dresses bought, so that shoppers are told if someone else from their school already purchased the exact dress. Prom dresses, unlike wedding dresses, are considered limited editions, so that it is really hard to wear the same dress as another student.
