Gen Z Characteristics

Gen Z Characteristics

Who is Gen Z?

Gen Z is the generation after Millennials, which has been defined as people born from the mid-1990s to the early 2000s.

What Age is Gen Z?

Members of Gen Z currently range in age from 5 to 21. This generation encompasses children, tweens, teens and young adults. And while they may seem overlooked right now, the Gen Z market makes up 25% of the U.S. population —making them a larger group than the Baby Boomers or Millennials.

Generation Z (also known as Post-Millennials, the iGeneration, Founders, Plurals, or the Homeland Generation) is the demographic cohort following the Millennials.

The Gen Z ‘tween’ to teen age is much more complex than it ever has been before because it’s broken up by ages such as kids (5-8), tween age (8-14 years) to teen (15-17) and young adult (18-21). While this group does share a lot of the same interests and social norms, their specific interests and tastes will vary from bracket to bracket. So, to make your job a little more comprehensive, it’s important to understand the target age demographic you’re aiming to reach. Get Z lines are a bit blurry, so it will require you to know who you’re speaking to, specifically.

Generation Z is the most ethnically diverse and largest generation in American history

Characteristics of Gen Z

The Gen Z kid knows what s/he likes, even though it may change from month to month, or dramatically from year to year. She might be in-between stages, evolving at a fast rate and finding her way. She has been labeled a social justice warrior, technology addicted, and even anti-social. They were essentially born with a smartphone or tablet in their hands, what else can you expect?

And while they are considered “anti-social”, by older generational standards of what society used to be considered, they are far from being disconnected from their peers. Social media plays a huge part in their life, and not a day goes by where s/he is not interacting socially or being influenced by someone online.

The average Gen Z teen got their first smartphone just before their 12th birthday, while some younger Z’ers got theirs at around age 8.

The Stats of Gen Z
