10+ Ideas for Cute Back to School Supplies

10+ Ideas for Cute Back to School Supplies

School supplies has changed since I was a kid. Girls are definitely looking for unique back to school items that fit their personality. And what I have found are awesome school supplies ideas that are suitable for all ages: Girls, Tween, Teen and even College students! I’m not gonna lie, I have a lot of these items in my office (shhh!)

Back in the day we had Lisa Frank, Trapper Keeper, smelly stickers and puffy stickers with googly eyes (so freakin cool) and multi-color click pens and scented markers that dried out within days, but nothing as imaginative and cute as we are finding now. The options are endless, and it’s easy to see why so many people are addicted to the Japanese Kawaii school supplies and stationery.

I’m a sucker for anything cute, so when it comes to school supplies or office supplies, nothing is better than Japan’s Kawaii culture for cuteness overload. The way I see it, you are going to be spending a lot of time in class writing, so you might as well have a cute pen to look at, or a ninja highlighter telling you how much you make them smile. 🙂

Plus, it’s nice to have something unique that sets you apart, right? (Especially if you’re at a school where you have to wear a school uniform)

Kawaii stationery is everything right now! If you’ve ever been into a Japanese stationery or bookstore, it’s probably packed full of enthusiastic shoppers. And you’ll find groups of girls huddled around the adorable pens, pencils, scented erasers and notepads. Everything to make a girls drab school supplies list turn into a major haul.

I recently visited Kinokuniya Bookstore in New York, located next to Bryant Park. The lower level of the store is brimming with adorable school supplies, erasers, cute zipper pulls, notepads and pens in every color and character you can imagine. If you live in a place where you can only shop online, I recommend Blippo or my personal favorite, Amazon, for the prices and variety.

Now, I do know that schools have their own school supplies lists, and some are stricter than others. But aside from the Red Pens, White Glue, Crayola Crayons and the #2 pencils, I can’t see any reason why a fashionable girl who wants to set herself apart can’t have a cupcake shaped eraser.

Or a Burger eraser, for that matter.

Not sure what school supplies you’re supposed to bring this year? If you want to know what YOUR school supplies list has on it,check Amazon’s School Supply List for Parents, Teachers and Students. You can search by zip code, and it will find your school and list.

But don’t expect anything fancy. Most schools will have the regular yellow pencils, blue Bic pens and salmon colored erasers. You know, the same school supplies I had and your parents had, and maybe your Grandparents had. Maybe.

All I can say is, *Yawn*. Tween me would have definitely pushed the school supplies guideline boundaries if these items had been available. In fact, I’m pretty sure I did.

What about a cute day planner with stickers to remember important due dates and tests? I know, you have a phone and apps for this but there is nothing like a little daily planner to keep you organized when you can’t have your phone. Some schools won’t allow phones on or in class, too.
