7 Wardrobe Essentials Every Woman Should Have Year-Round

If you’re anything like me, you rotate your closet out every few months and only keep seasonal items in it. The most annoying thing that you’ll have to face in this case is getting ready for a party or some other event and finding out the cute dress you intended to wear is packed away somewhere.

So, here is a checklist of a few items that you should always have in your closet, regardless of the season. If you do, you won’t have to rummage through the off-season clothes you’ve stored away in the attic.

1. The Formal Party Dress

Most people attend a few parties a year, and if they start buying a new outfit for each one, it’s going to be a waste of money. With Kate Middleton and actresses like Lucy Hale and Tiffany Haddish repeating dresses in front of millions of people, you should definitely invest in a formal party dress and keep it in your closet at all times.

2. Tee Shirts

I often pack away my tee-shirts as soon as the summers are gone and end up needing them with some fall or even winter outfit later on. To avoid scrambling to Target for a basic tee, you should always keep 3 on hand: a white, black and a favorite graphic tee.

I swear by the style rule of: If you aren’t sure what to wear, just wear a basic black tee and jeans. (Paired with a great black pump, you can go anywhere). Keep the tees handy. You never know when you’ll need them.

3. Simple Black Heels

Black heels are the Holy Grail to a woman’s wardrobe. No matter what the season, black heels can go with almost any outfit you want to wear. However, you should make sure the size of the heel is to your comfort and style.

A pair of simple black heels is something every woman should invest in. While many people tend to wear boots in the winter, a black heel with black pants or a flowy skirt looks chic for any weekend cocktail hour or casual art opening.

4. The LBD (Little Black Dress)

For less formal evenings, the classic, LBD (Little Black Dress) goes almost anywhere.

If there are last-minute plans with your friends, a date night or something work-related, you’ll always have an outfit. All you have to do is pair it with the appropriate shoes and right accessories, and you’re ready to go!

As an extra side tip: A flowy white sundress is also great to have handy for a warm destination getaway in the middle of winter.

5. A Swimsuit

Finding a swimsuit in the middle of fall or winter can be challenging sometimes! That’s why it’s always a good idea to keep one or two in your drawers during off-seasons. Hey, you never know where you may find yourself, be it a hot tub at the Four Seasons or Maui. Keep a swimsuit on hand for last-minute pool or beach plans! Tip: Keep flip-flops and a packable sundress on hand, too!

6. Black Leggings

These are in my closet year-round. In the summer, they are Capri length and in the winter, they are ankle length. No matter what, invest in a GREAT pair of leggings and you’ll wear them all the time.

7. A Lightweight, Packable Jacket

A lightweight, packable jacket is a must-have for me. Have you ever decided to head up to the mountains in the spring or fall, only to get there and discover the temps are a lot cooler than the lower altitude you just left? Bring that packable jacket with you! A few of my faves are Patagonia and The North Face.

If you have the items as mentioned earlier in your wardrobe at all times, you’ll inevitably end up saving yourself a lot of trouble and money. Did I leave anything out?
