Top Halloween Costume Ideas for Teens, Tweens (2017)

What are the popular Halloween costume ideas this year for girls and teens?

With so many great movies and shows coming out, we are not at a loss for fem-spiration. The only challenge is picking one! This year, feminism and heroines are strong. We’ve seen Eleven, Wonder Woman, Moana, Jessica Jones and even Kimmy Schmidt take center stage and dominate.

The 80s are definitely cool again. We are seeing more shows taking place in the 80s such as The Americans, GLOW and Stranger Things. It’s a pretty safe bet to throw together an 80s look this Halloween if you’re feeling nostalgic. And an 80s costume is usually super easy. Especially since we have posted a few articles on 80s fashion trends to give you a little inspo! Based on trends, here are our current top Halloween costume ideas for 2017:

1. Eleven (Stranger Things) Costume:

Everyone loves Millie Bobby Brown’s character in Stranger Things. The Eleven costume is relatively easy to gather together, the main component is Eleven’s pink dress with the smocking and white peter pan collar, tube socks and high top Converse shoes in white. The blonde short wig and blue jacket are optional. For an added touch the 011 temporary “tattoo” would be cool, as would a box of Eggo waffles and a calculator watch (it WAS the 80s, after all).

2. Wonder Woman

Before she was Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. This year, girl power and ‘the future is female’ is kind of everything!

3. A Unicorn

There are literally thousands of ideas for Unicorn costumes! Whether you go full-on costume with head and hooves or just do really cool unicorn makeup, you’re certain to be the love of the party! Here’s a few unicorn costume ideas to get you started. And the wonderful aspect of this costume is the variety of possibilities! You can do whatever you like and use your imagination.

4. Tina Belcher

Costume ideas for Tina Belcher

Tina Belcher is totally my spirit animal, and my #1 pick for Halloween this year. Tina Belcher is the awkward teen and the heart and soul of Bob’s Burgers. She is such a significant character right now that many women and teens can relate to. Luckily, Tina Belcher is easy to recreate. All you need is a light blue t-shirt, a black wig with a yellow barrette, black glasses, a blue skirt and red and white tube socks. Black high top Converse shoes are a plus! In total, this costume should only run you about $50

This Instagram cosplayer has become famous for her mad Moana costume skills! The skirt was custom made, so finding one exactly like hers may be a little difficult (and pricey), but we have scouted a few Moana costume pieces that we think will work in a budget!

6. Harley Quinn

Yes, Harley Quinn is still a fan favorite for Halloween. Girls last year were all over this costume and I loved seeing all of the creativity on Instagram

7.  Niyan Cat

No doubt the pop tart, sweets-eating, rainbow-blasting space cat has captured all of our hearts, why not be the cosmic Niyan Cat for your next Halloween (or Comic Con) costume? Bonus points if you can figure out a way to loop the theme music!
